I've been using a PLS180 since early in my project, but quickly realized that I needed a second laser -- sometimes to cross beams, sometimes because I needed a horizontal beam near the ceiling while needing a vertical beam elsewhere, and sometimes I just needed to mark a plumb spot (directly overhead a mark on the floor, which the PLS180 doesn't do).

So I bought a Bosch 3-point laser, which doesn't project a line, so that didn't completely satisfy my needs.

Then I found out about this unit via an article on JLConline. The price was right (edit: was at the time!), it does plumb, and projects lines.

The vertical line fans back just past the plumb dot projected on the ceiling. The horizontal beam isn't quite 180 in spread. The lines it projects are dimmer than the PLS180, but still quite usable indoors for residential construction. I can't see it outdoors, whereas the PLS180 is adequately visible when I'm wearing red lensed eyeglasses.

When I set it next to the PLS180, the beams are parallel, about equally wide, so equally accurate to the PLS, just a bit dimmer.

This Agatec unit has a hard switch that locks the laser emitter into a set position, which means the unit can be turned on its back in order to project a "+" upward, something that can't be done with the PLS since the emitter doesn't physically lock.

The biggest downside of this unit is that it times out after a period of time -- I forget how long, maybe 30 minutes or an hour -- but after timing out, the battery still drains. I've had it mounted up high on the bracket and took a break, came back and it was off so left it for the weekend, only to find it needing new batteries when I tried to use it again.
